News from the Front in War on Cancer -- Mission Not Accomplished
A newly released article titled “News from the Front in War on Cancer – Mission Not Accomplished” from Scientific American highlights the flawed paradigm
that genetic mutations are singularly responsible for the origin of cancer.
The gigabits of genetic code gathered to date, rather than conclusively explain the origin of cancer, continue to confuse and frustrate.
The article begins in the early 1970’s, with a researcher noticing a genetic abnormality specific to leukemia cells, initiating the genetic push in the war on cancer.
.....Then 40 years pass with almost no meaningful therapeutic progress.
The article ends with this statement: "We are still very much in the discovery mode," Chanock says. Decades after uncovering the genetic basis of cancer, that is a sobering statement.
Maybe it’s time for a new approach.
